Artworks Georgetown

by Michelle Loughery (Vernon B.C.), Painted Summer, 2000
Artist Michelle Loughery's mural design incorporates three elements:

A portrait of George Kennedy (for whom the town was named) creates the bridge between a scene of Wilber Lake - one of three now-vanished millponds essential to the original settlement and early industrial development of the town - and an early view of Main Street.

The mural is near the site of Kennedy's first grist mill where a community of three families settled and took the name Georgetown in 1837. The building at 26 Guelph Street was originally the H. T. Arnold Glove Company where fine gloves were manufactured from 1901 until 1922.
