Acton Millennium Mural Committtee: Millennium Mural Project (Hwy 7 & 25)

by Michelle Loughery (Vernon B.C.), Painted Summer, 2000
Acton's unique history in the leather industry is captured in this mural. Seen in the background is the W. H. Storey Glove Factory, built in 1868 and originally located at the corner of Bower and Alice Streets where the Acton Post Office now stands. The building is reflected in Henderson's Pond, a popular recreational spot at the turn of the century. Men from the Beardmore Tannery and women form the W. H. Storey Glove Factory are at the forefront of the mural. The Beardmore Tannery, built in 1842, was located on Agnes Street.
