Maiden Lane Mural Project “Windsor At Play”

Derived from vintage photographs dating as far back as 1867, the Maiden Lane Murals Project depicts Windsorites at leisure. Artists from the City of Windsor Art Studio created lifelike images of turn-of-the-century recreational activities. In all, a series of 19 murals grace this lane-way as a reminder of this city’s vibrant past.

Photo references used to create these murals were courtesy of: Canadian Club Brand Centre, Charlie Fox, Walter Lloyd, Leo St. Louis, Windsor Public Library Municipal Archives (including pieces from the Margaret Bowlby Family Album), the North American Black Historical Museum, The Windsor Star, Walkerville Publishing Co., and the Windsor Community Museum. This project would not have been possible without contributions from Service Canada, the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Area, and the City of Windsor.
