Inspired by the heritage of the City of Windsor and its important landmarks during the 1920s and 30s, Postcards from Home artists have illustrated vintage views of Windsor along Ouellette Avenue. Pitt and Ouellette – 1927 mural is located at 126 Ouellette Ave., on the northeast corner of this intersection. This 41-foot x 16- foot mural, consisting of 16 panels, reminds us of Smith’s Department Store, which was located at this corner until the early 70s. It was considered the largest department store west of London. The Huron and Erie Savings and Loan building later purchased by Smith’s is shown as well as the Royal Bank on the corner of Ouellette and Pitt built in 1887 for Traders Bank. Volunteer models in this mural are from Windsor Light Opera.

Postcards from Home is funded in part by The Government of Canada with support from the City of Windsor and the City Centre Business Association.
