This mural presents facts and legends from the history of the Sherbrooke region. The oversize illustration presents a composite and imaginary scene. The foreground features the First Nations pulling back the existing wall like a theatre curtain, revealing characters assembled on the banks of the strategic Saint-Francis River, right in front of what has come to be a symbol of our region: the solitary pine. These characters mostly “extras” symbolize the succession of personalities, facts, and legends across several periods and sagas of our history, well before Sherbrooke or even Hyatt’s Mill (first name of the town) existed. A number of events are brought together and illustrated with subtle details for the viewer to discover.
