Nekitotegwak![]() Inaugurated in June 2003 Dimensions: 28 ft wide x 37 ft high In the Abenaki language, « Nékitotegwak » means « Where the rivers meet ». This mural symbolises an arch, a view on the past, showing the confluence of the Magog and Saint-François Rivers, still wild and natural, at the time of beaver dams, before those of hydroelectricity. An imaginary conception of how was the Magog River, of the surrounding where the First Nations Peoples used to come regularly, attracted by the abundance of game, fish and wild fruits. The Abenaki would make a halt on this site, before the necessary portage to ascend the cascading canyon of the Magog River, on their way to New England. This painting thus means to be more of a figurative than architectural representation. Enjoy this magnificent water cascade flowing through the rocks, animated with subliminal silhouettes that are yours to discover… |
