The Traveller’s Hotel

Completed: October 2008
Dimensions: 16 feet wide by 40 feet high
Location: 121 Depot

This mural honours the former hotel district. The first railroad station was built in the downtown area in 1852. Facing the station as of 1877 was the Railway Hotel (the present location of the municipal parking lot), among others. This mural symbolically illustrates the ¨Hôtel des voyageurs¨. The real ¨Hôtel des voyageurs¨, was built on Depot Street around 1910; the small, modest hotel was frequented by travelers waiting for their train connections. We also see old-time downtown merchants from across the decades, waiting for the arrival by train of their local boxing champion Léonard Dumoulin, alias Jack Renault, who fought among the greats such as Jack Dempsey, and made Hollywood movies.
