Painted in the summer of
2009, this 16' x 36' mural depicts the French settlement on St. Croix
Island (Dochet's Island) in 1604. French explorers are seen in the
foreground, sharing gifts from Europe and receiving knowledge of the
land from the Passamaquoddy people. The image in the top left shows St.
Croix Island and how it is positioned in the St. Croix River. The image
in the top right shows the settlement on the island taken from a map
drawn by Samuel de Champlain. |
