The Lady with the Hats ![]() Artist: Terry Winter, Delburne, AB Size: 810 sq. ft. 1990 Cornelia Railey Wood, one of the leading pioneer ladies of Stony Plain, was born in Boxford, Missouri and moved to Canada in 1904. She began teaching in 1909 at the age of 16, and in 1912, mated Russell Edgerton Wood. They moved to Stony Plain in 1913. She is portrayed here on her 90th birthday with a photo album capturing pictures of her achievements. Comelia Wood owned over 100 hats and became known as ‘The Lady with the Hats.” A permanent display of her hats and numerous items from her lifelong accomplishments has been set up in the Multicultural Heritage Centre. |
