Strong Arm of the Law
**Sculpture of Sheriff Israel
Umbach

Sculptor: Shane Repka.
Spruce Grove, AB, 1997
This is Stony Plain’s
first sculpture. It is made from scrap metal and bronze, measures six
feet, and weighs approximately 400 lbs. Israel Umbach, Stony Plain’s
first sheriff and overseer, set a Canadian precedent in 1907 when he
forced the Canadian Northern Railway Company to pay their outstanding
taxes by chaining the locomotive to the tracks. This incident is also
depicted in the mural “Strong Arm of the Law.” |
